Points North Heli Adventures is the only heli skiing operation utilizing the southeastern side of the Chugach mountains. In the past decade, the Chugach Range has proved to be the premier destination worldwide for helicopter skiing and boarding.

Our base location allows us to provide you with a 'private' playground in your backyard. While other operations share terrain, we are able to explore areas that the others can not conveniently access. We continue to find new terrain each year catering from the intermediate level recreation skier to the world class athlete. Part of Cordova’s charm is her remoteness, yet she is not isolated. Scheduled daily jet service from Anchorage, Juneau, and Seattle makes it easy to visit, even on a tight timetable. For more leisurely travel, ferries operated by the Alaska Marine Highway carry passengers and vehicles between Cordova, Valdez, Whittier and Seward on a year round basis. And, while no highway connects to the rest of Alaska, more than 50 miles of well-maintained local roads guide you to amazing one-of-a-kind adventures.
The Chugach, Wrangell, St. Elias and Alaskan ranges converge in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, which at 13.2 million acres is the nation’s largest national park. Dating back to the 1800’s, commercial fishing has been the mainstay of the Cordova economy. Today, visitors can watch as modern day fishers gear up for their seasonal salmon fishery.

Cordova Lodging
We are located 2.5 miles from the town of Cordova. Our facility is the Orca Adventure Lodge, formerly known as the Orca Cannery which was established in 1887. No longer utilized for the fishing industry, remodeling has been directed towards making this a multi-seasonal adventure destination. Our lodging facility at Orca consists of a 37-room, two-story newly developed lodge on the water's edge immediately adjacent to your helicopter's landing pad.

Upon your return from a daily outing, a steaming wood sauna anticipates your arrival. However, if you still have some energy left from riding the Chugach powder, we have a gym with weights and cardio machines that are sure to give you a workout.

Our lodging is all-inclusive. Our facility is not a hotel or motel. It is a beautiful state of the art facility located directly on the waters edge. All of our aircraft are a few steps away from your room eliminating the drive to the heli port each day. Everything is located here on the property. All of our meals are guaranteed to make your mouth water and our local chef specializes in fine cuisine. Within the lodge we also offer wireless Internet access, just in case you are thinking of work while on vacation.

INTRO

A Day riding the Chugach
As you lie in bed you hear the sound of helicopters warming up. You wake to realize that it's a bluebird day. You head for the dining area and there is a buzz in the air. Groups are posted the night before so you already know what time your flight departs. You have plenty of time eat breakfast and get ready for the days excursion.

A sack lunch is provided for you and kept in your pack. As you prepare to fly out your guide goes through a refresher of the safety briefings you went through the night before. At this point your body is full of excitement. You load the aircraft and before you know it, you have sensory overload. You have suddenly realized you are experiencing an adventure beyond your dreams. The Chugach welcomes you.

The heli lands on a peak that has vistas in every direction. Suddenly there is silence filled with excitement. You and your group are standing all alone on a remote peak in the Chugach. This is what you came for. At this point your guide goes through all of the safety aspects of your first descent in these mountains. This is a great time for questions if you have any. It is imperative that every member of the group is on the same page. After all safety questions have been clarified, your guide drops in. He floats down the slope effortlessly and pulls out into a safe zone and signals that it is your turn. You give yourself a push and away you go. Suddenly realizing that the snow under your feet feels as though its baby powder. Cold, deep and dry. We like to call it "blower".

The snow tends to create large plumes of blowing snow behind you like a vapor trail. As you reach the end of your run you are overwhelmed with enjoyment. Most say, "that was the best run of my life" only to say that on the next run as well. By days end most state that was the best day of their life. Skiing or Snowboarding in the Chugach has a tendency to do just that. When you arrive back at the facility you have the opportunity to grab a cold beverage, share stories with others, take a sauna or just plain relax until dinner. There is always something to do until your next day arrives...   

The PNH Difference
Points North Heli-Adventures, Inc. is the only heli-ski operation in Alaska that is truly all-inclusive with a one of a kind Chugach experience.

There are no roads or highways that run through the middle of our land in the Chugach Mountain Range. All of our clients fly from our lodge and back to our lodge via helicopter each day. We have multiple fuel caches in the field that allow us to fly non-stop throughout the day. You are never on a peak and told to ski to a road for a shuttle bus pick-up.

PNH offers a heli-flight hour rate instead of a guaranteed vertical package rate. This is what makes PNH special. You only pay for the time utilized by the aircraft. With that said, an average day of skiing or snowboarding consists of 20,000-35,000 feet of vertical per day. The price one pays for his/her day, based on our heli-hour rate averages around $825 (for 6-8 runs) $1200 (for 8-12 runs). Most operations sell a vertical package or a 6 run day which is great however at PNH it is very common to obtain 6 runs by lunch time. Our average ski day gets you 8-12 runs and allows you to keep an eye on your heli time.

 Additional Heli Footage

Single Occupancy

Single occupancy room rate is an additional $250 for the week.
Please note, if you come by yourself, we will do our best to give you a single room at no extra cost.

Media Rate
Points North offers a media rate to industry professionals who are on assignment. Please call Lineup Explorers for additional information.

Fuel Surcharge
We base the fuel surcharge on the Los Angeles Index for Kerosene-Type Jet Fuel Price that is reported by the US Department of Energy.  A Fuel Surcharge will be added for increases in the base average fuel prices (base prices are determined by averaging the last 6 months of the previous year).  A $2 addition to each heli hour will be added for each percentage (%) increase. At this time we do not have a fuel charge.

Refund Policy for the Standard Package
The Points North refund policy is as follows: Due to the high demand for optimum times and helicopter scheduling, no cash refunds will be given. The refund policy applies for all situations, no exceptions! Credit will be given for full value of deposit on a later booking if cancellation is made (90) ninety days prior to scheduled arrival. 50% of deposit will be credited if cancellation is made (60) sixty days prior to scheduled arrival. No credit will be given for cancellations after the (60) sixty day mark.

In the event “no fly days” occur due to weather or high avalanche conditions, you will receive a PNH credit of 50% of your unused flight reservation fee. This is based on 6 days. All credits are available on account for two calendar years toward the use of a deposit for a future trip. There shall be no crediting or refund of the lodging fee due to pre-booked reservations well in advance. We suggest you get travel insurance prior to your trip to cover any unforeseen costs do to trip cancellation.

Points North retains the right to refuse service to anyone at anytime and cancel, move, change or re-schedule a trip without notice at anytime, for any reason. Clients will not lose funds, but will however be credited funds to a future trip.

Injury or Sickness
There are NO refunds for injury or sickness. Verification of this prior to your trip, the same rules apply as written above.

Points North is not responsible for lost bags during your travels.
We do recommend that you obtain trip insurance prior to your trip for this reason.

PROGRAM OPTION 2 - 'PRIVATE HELICOPTER' A-Star B2 (Exclusive)

What a great way to experience the Chugach Mountains with a private A-Star B2. With a group of 4 or 8, and 2 PNH guides, the entire 2000 square ski-able miles of terrain are yours for the taking. If your group ability is expert level, the gems of the Chugach as well as many first descents are available to you.

• 12 hours of flight time. 6 hours guaranteed. This is based on Hobbs time (heli in flight)

Private Helicopter Cancellations / Refund Policy
In the event “no fly days” occur due to weather or high avalanche conditions and the 6-hour guarantee is not met, your hobbs time will be refunded at $1,500 per unused hour.

The refund policy applies for all situations, no exceptions! Full Credit will be given for full value of deposit on a later booking if cancellation is made (90) ninety days prior to scheduled arrival. No credit / refunds will be given for cancellations after the (90) ninety day mark and your deposit for reservation will be forfeited.

Trip details
This is a fun, informal camp for those ladies that want to progress their level of skiing in the big mountains of Alaska. The camp will be a very smooth transition to eventually skiing more technical lines with sluff management, line selection, snow assessment, and much more. The theme of the camp will be all about support and communication in an encouraging environment.

Women's ski camp in Alaska.There will also be video filming on the first day so women can gain a visual perspective of their skiing strengths and weaknesses prior to heading out for day two.

Activity days ("down days") will involve fun activities such as transceiver drills, crevasse rescue training, hikes through the temperate rain forest, ski touring, relaxing in the PNH sauna and much more!

Activities for Cordova
“No fly days” can and do occur in Alaska and this is where Points North separates itself from the rest.  We have a chairlift that accesses terrain above the beautiful town of Cordova, along with, ice climbing, backcountry skiing, skydiving, snowshoe excursions, not to mention options to go fishing for Halibut, Salmon, Dolly Varden and Rock fish. You can also just go for a boat ride. Believe it or not, we even have a local surf break. The town of Cordova itself also offers many different options for entertainment. Your Alaskan experience is paramount to us!

This is where PNH separates itself from all other heli operations in the world. At Points North we offer a variety of different down day activities. The natural setting of being located directly on Prince William Sound and surrounded by the mountains creates the perfect playground for enjoying what Alaska has to offer.

We have a sea-kayaks, boats to take you fishing, ice climbing, snowshoe tours, ski touring, adventure hikes and glacier tours. Yet, one of the all-time favorites is riding at Mt. Eyak followed by fish and chips and a few of your favorite adult beverages at the Reluctant Fisherman overlooking Cordova Marina.

• Surfing: PNH offers surfing on the most northern point of the Pacific Ocean. Day trips and overnight stays are welcomed. Transportation to the breaks from Cordova is either by boat, helicopter or fixed wing. Travel times average 15 to 30 minutes given the spot we elect for that days excursion. Come explore the hundreds of miles of endless remote coastline. Surf the perfect waves that Alaska has to offer with the luxury of seclusion. We continue to explore and discover hidden treasure's that surfer's dream about. Given there is a swell; The Gulf of Alaska can muster up some great waves. Cordova is also be the proud host of the Alaska Long Board Surf Festival in September of each year.

All of your meals are served in our restaurant located on the premise. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, ample snacks are provided for you. You will enjoy a variety of seafood from some of the richest waters in the world. Alaska is famous for it's halibut, and Copper River red salmon. Our chef is a local of Cordova that specializes in these items and will cater to all dietary needs. We focus in Alaskan Cuisine. Our Guests love the heaping piles of warm cookies served daily. Most of our clients leave calling PNH "Fat Camp".

History of Points North: about our operation
PNH is the only heli-operation utilizing this portion of the Chugach Mountains. There are more first descents than one could obtain in a 100 lifetimes. Most people believe that Alaska is very extreme place. Its is and can be, however movies and magazines have made it that way. We have over 2000 square ski-able miles of terrain catering to the high intermediate skier or the world-class athlete. Taking care of you and keeping safe is most important.  Alaska has something for YOU, this we guarantee!

Points North Heli-Adventures is the only heli-ski operation in Alaska that is all-inclusive. We do not offer you a guaranteed vertical package rate. This is what makes Points North special.  Weather in Alaska is too unpredictable to guarantee grand expectations of vertical, yet it is also the weather that makes Alaskan heli-skiing the super bowl of riding. You will get your vertical on fly days for certain!

There are no roads or highways that run through the middle of our land. All of our clients fly from our lodge and back to our lodge via helicopter each day. We have multiple fuel caches in the field. You are never on a peak and told to ski to the road for a shuttle bus pick up. An average day of skiing or snowboarding consists of 20-40,000 feet of vertical per day. The price one pays for his/her day is based on our heli-hour rate, averages around $950 (for 6-9 runs) $1200 (for 9-12 runs). Most operations sell a vertical package or a 6 run day, which is great however, at PNH it is very common to obtain 6 runs by lunchtime. An average ski day is generally 8-12 runs and allowing you to keep an eye on your heli-time. 4 heli-hours generally is equivalent to 3 days of flying at around 8-9 runs per day. Please note, if you are coming later in the season when daylight hours are long, it’s not uncommon to come home with 12-14 runs. Heli times are generally longer in this case.  You are not paying for vertical. You are paying for high quality ski runs! Points North Heli Adventures is the only heli-skiing operation utilizing the southeastern side of the Chugach Mountains. Over the past decade, the Chugach Range has proven to be the premier destination worldwide for helicopter skiing and boarding. Accessed by ferry or plane, Cordova is unlike any other community in the state. Alaska Airlines flies into Cordova twice daily from Seattle and Anchorage. Upon arrival, a PNH team member will greet you and help with your luggage.  A short, fifteen-minute drive to our facility offers many opportunities to see bald eagles, moose and the beautiful town of Cordova.  Along the way you will also view the breath taking Chugach Mountains that you will soon be skiing or riding.

Our base location in Cordova is 40 miles from Valdez and allows us to provide you with a 'private' playground in our backyard.  While other 5 operations in Valdez share terrain, we are able to explore areas that the others cannot conveniently access. We continue to find new terrain each year catering from the intermediate level recreation skier to the world-class athlete. If you have heard of heli skiing in Alaska, and are already this deep in your research of operators, it is more than likely we have terrain to suit your desires. With over 2000 square ski-able miles available out the front door, there is more terrain than one could ski or ride in a lifetime!

Emergencies
Continuous radio contact between pilots, guides and base ensure a fast response in the event on an emergency. All guides carry the essential emergency equipment in their packs and additional equipment is carried in the helicopters. If needed, Cordova has a local hospital with all the modern technologies of a hospital in your home town.

Insurance
IF AN EVACUATION OF YOUR PERSON BY HELICOPTER IS NEEDED IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, THE COSTS ARE AT YOUR EXPENSE. Please ensure that your regular medical insurance covers transportation by helicopter or ambulance.

Points North and its professional staff of high angle guides will escort you to terrain that will match your abilities. When you visit us be assured your safety is paramount! I have been skiing (filming for ski movies, participating in photo shoots and guiding) at Points North Heli-Adventures in Cordova, Alaska for the last 12 years. I am very familiar with the terrain, conditions, snow pack as well as having the vital credentials it takes to guide in Alaska. I have been veryfortunate to have skiing take me around the world and have found my favorite place to be Cordova, Alaska…nothing compares! I started “Alaskan Ladies'” due to the amount of amazing women skiers I see on a daily winter basis. Every guide holds at very minimum an avalanche two card and has received extensive training in mountain safety, glacier travel, high mountain rescue techniques, and helicopter operations. Each day guests go through an extensive safety briefing including the use of Avalanche transceivers and helicopter protocol. These briefings are for your insurance that you will be comfortable in the surroundings you are about to embark on. PNH uses only the finest in safety equipment and we are continuously updating our protocol with recent advancements in technology.

PNH procedures for avalanche management include collecting weather data 365 days a year. Daily snow observations come from snow pit data collected by guides each day and shared through radio communication while in the mountains. Each day PNH has a pre and prior ski day meeting for its guide staff to compare notes and discuss what is happening in the field. It is important for our documentation to have all information from our guides. Every guide at PNH has been trained by the foremost experts in the field. The “Maritime Maid” was built in 1971, and remodeled and refurbished in 1985. She has fished in the Pacific to South America and the Atlantic to Africa. Am I ready for Alaska?
You don't have to be an "extreme skier" to come to Alaska. Although magazines and movies have created the "extreme skiing scene" in the Chugach Range, there are endless opportunities for everyone. At PNH we match your ability to the terrain. We recommend that guests be intermediate level riders and comfortable in a variety of snow conditions. Due to the very deep snow conditions, we encourage the use of fat skis from Volkl and if you don't have them, they are available for rental at PNH. Everyone that comes to Alaska is usually nervous. It is important to relax. Our guides care about your experience and your safety. We ski the steep terrain only when snow conditions allow. We always descend slopes one at a time and each client carries a small radio for communication purposes with the guide. The guide will always assess the slope prior to your descent. If the slope seems in anyway unsafe the guide will radio the helicopter for pick up.

Fitness
We ask that all of or guests come in ski shape. This doesn't mean go out and run a marathon. The better shape your in the more enjoyable your experience will be. Average runs in the Chugach are 3000 to 4000 vertical. Average days are 20-30,000 vertical feet. We don't have to ski our slopes top to bottom without stopping however, sometimes we encourage it.

Sluff Management
   1. Don't descend steep sluff-prone terrain when slab avalanches or large sluffs are likely. Thoroughly check out stability on lesser slopes first. Manageable sluffs are dry, no more than 3 to 15 cm (1" to 6") deep and leave deposits less than 40 cm (16") deep. Large sluffs are as powerful and dangerous as slabs. Don't mess with them.
   2. Remember that sluffs may trigger slabs even when slopes don't fail when ridden. The sluff can add more rapid load and stress to the snowpack than a rider.
   3. Consider sluffs inevitable on slopes steeper than 45° in soft snow. The snow may not sluff, but you should have a plan in mind if it does. In really loose or sugary snow, 40° slopes may sluff, but sluffs slow down and lose energy when the slope shallows to 40° in most snow
   4. Sluff follows the hollows and depressions in the slope and spreads out thinly on "bowling ball" shapes. Where thin, it may be rideable. Where deep and powerful, it won't be.
   5. Know where your sluff is at all times! Look back uphill (called the "Chugach Look"). This is easier for toeside snowboarders. Skiers should practice a bit or track their sluff by its shadow if the sun is at the right angle. Just be sure you really know where the snow is.
   6. If the sluff is catching you, use "Islands of Safety" as places to stop while it passes. Pull up under on a protective terrain feature. Pull out to the side, preferably under a bump that will divert the sluff and protect you, or pause on top of a spine, bump, rib, or rock outcrop.
   7. Ski cutting. The traditional sluff management tool is to cut quickly across the top of the run, skidding and bouncing to release the sluff; then descend behind it. This may or may not clean out the slope, and it may or may not meet aesthetic desire for untracked snow.
   8. Avoidance by speed. This can be done either by going slowly enough that the sluff runs ahead of and below you, or by going like hell and not falling. While top riders often pull off the latter method, remember that you must be rock solid and confident to do it, and that even the best will sometimes fall. What are the consequences if you do?
   9. Avoidance by terrain - Keep working toward one side of the slope. Cut consistently left, or right, on every turn or every few turns so the sluff goes down the slope you have just left. You can pull to the side and pause, if necessary. This method works best on large, featureless slopes.
  10. Avoidance by terrain - Work double fall lines. When there is a side slope to the terrain, get up on it. The slope may fall away to one side, so work the high edge. In a chute, you may be able to stay up on one side while the sluff runs in the bottom.
  11. Avoidance by terrain - Work spines and ridges. The sluff will fall to either side. The spine must be wide enough for turns without getting boards caught in the sluff. Opposite sides of the spine are different aspects, and may have radically different snow and stability. Most spines form because snow builds up above a rock outcrop, ice chunk, or other obstacle. When your spine ends, can you jump the end piece, bail off the side, or pause on top? Sluff will be flowing on both sides. Will it spread out thinly enough to ride through once the channeling effect of the spine is gone?
  12. Avoidance by terrain - Change drainages or get up on a side slope as the sluff passes. Descend aggressively, bail as necessary. Use combined techniques to put together a do-able line. This is an advanced method.
  13. Avoidance by terrain - Watch the choke points! Places where you go through a narrows, leave a spine, or drop under any sluff-collecting feature will be the cruxes of the route. Either avoid the sluff-enhancing features, or time your passage so you are well ahead of or behind the sluff.

Points North is now offering wireless internet access. Bring your laptop and your smart card and you are connected. We are now the ONLY heli-ski operation in all of Alaska offering its clients wireless access to the internet.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How far do you have to fly to get to the terrain we ski?
Our first runs are 6-8 minutes out from the base. From there we leap frog throughout the day averaging 2-3 minute lifts for the next given run. An average day consists of 8-10 runs equaling an hour and fifteen to an hour and a half of fly time. Its not common to fly more than an hour and half on a big day.

How does heli time work?
We charge heli time to make it simple. The heli ride is the expense in heli skiing, not the vertical. You get to choose your own vertical you wish to ski or ride. You fly 6 minutes to your first run from our base. Your second run may take 3 minutes of heli time. Your third run may take 5 minutes to obtain. You now have 3 runs in the can and have burned 14 minutes of time. The time to get home is generally around the same as it takes to get to the fly zone. Again, an average day is around 8-10 runs for an hour and a half of total fly time. Many lifts are much quicker than the example. Some lifts may take longer given the variable in elements. You don't have to ride from point A to point B. You ride want you choose to ride given the guide deems it safe and can manage and mitigate the various hazards to each given run.

When is the best time to come?
Given the Alaska heli season is only 12 weeks or so, there really is not a "Best time" to come. Most like to come in the middle of the season to get the best of both worlds. Early season, February, can consist of cold waist deep powder. Weather days allow us to ride our local chair lift. Late April has long daylight hours with boot top to shin deep powder. The long day light hours in April make the days seem like they are never going to end. This would make you think that you could have 15 hour days in the mountains however, even the best skiers and riders get tired and for safety reasons we still have standard hours of operation so you can be ready for the next day.

How much terrain do you have and what is it like?
Every operation is Alaska has the very same terrain. We all ski the Chugach Mountains. It makes us all ponder here at PNH when others state they have more or better terrain. WE SKI AND RIDE THE VERY SAME MOUNTAINS. Everyone has a selling point and all say they have a larger amount or better piece of the pie. Honestly, everyone has the very exact type of terrain and the Chugach Mountains offer terrain for all abilities. PNH has over 1500 square miles of skiable areas. You do not have to be and expert or an extreme skier to have a great time in Alaska. We do however ask that you come with an open mind, in descent shape, and able to feel confident in all conditions. It is very common for the guest to say after each run "that was the best run of my life", only to be followed with the same comment on the very next run.

How many helicopters do you have?
We start our season with 2 A-Star helicopters and by the 2nd week we have 3 until the end. Our aircraft have been provided by North Star Trekking out of Juneau, Alaska now for over 8 years. When doing your research it is very important to know how many aircraft the given operation has. Mechanicals can happen and fuel is needed throughout the day.Having a number of aircraft is important so that you don't spend time on the glacier waiting for a pick up. If your given aircraft is getting fuel at our in the field cache, we have 2 additional aircraft to bump you to your next run. Keeping you on the top of the mountains and riding is our priority. The glaciers can get cold waiting for a pick up.

Tree line in Alaska hovers around 1500 feet above sea level. Our local chair lift provides you with unreal tree skiing with access to a 2800' run down to the facility if you so choose. It is very important to know that you are kept skiing as much as possible at PNH. We do not put you in a snow cat on down days and chase the Frisbee down the glacier. Our local chair lift has history in itself, given that it is the oldest working chairlift in the world, the 13th ever built and it was Sun Valleys first chair ever. Riding the single chair is something that everyone should experience. Powder Magazine gave Mt. Eyak its own story in there feature, "Little areas that rock".

Do I have to worry about avalanches?
No matter where you heli ski in the world, avalanches are always the concern. You must assume inherent risks when heli skiing. We do our very best to mitigate all of the hazards and ski one by one always. WE DO NOT SKI DOWN THE GLACIER AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE GUIDE OUT FRONT LEADING THE CHARGE! We always ski one by one, safe zone to safe zone and communication is the most important factor. Everyone in your group will have a Motorola radio to communicate with your guide and other groups in the field at all times. We take a lot of time in the briefing prior to riding on the safety elements of heli skiing.

Can I bring my Avalanche Airbag System?
As many of you know, the airbag is a new standard in avalanche safety. Airbags are allowed to be carried onto flights however the canisters must be empty. Here at PNH we do have canisters available for the ABS and AVI Vest Systems. It is not an air carrier decision in regards to the canisters. It falls solely on the TSA agents during screening.

How do I get to Cordova and PNH?
Cordova is 30 miles from Valdez as the crow flies. Alaska Airlines, ERA Aviation and the Alaska Marine Highway access Cordova. Our airport is always open. It is not common for our airport to close. You can get to Cordova via Anchorage or Seattle. We are a 28 minute flight from Anchorage and a 3 hour flight from Seattle. Once you arrive at the airport a PNH courtesy van is waiting your arrival. Our facility is a 15 minute ride that offers breath taking views from the airport.

How many groups fly in the helicopter?
We never have more than 4 groups in the aircraft. This keeps you riding and allows additional safety back up with the other groups in the field working around you. Average runs can take up to a hour at times with various hazard mitigation and we can say confidently, you are never waiting for your aircraft. It is generally waiting for you. If you find yourself waiting it is only due to shuttles home at the end of the day or you are taking a break eating lunch on a peak. In the event you do find yourself waiting your generally thankful for the rest time between runs.

What are the guides like?
Our guides are what make PNH special. They are not only guides but teachers, personalities, and professionals. They are skiers first! Most are trained in the highest level of avalanche certification, medical rescue and are seasoned backcountry professionals. We are extremely proud of our guide staff and their credentials. How does PNH compare to the other operations in Alaska?
There is not a bad operation in Alaska. All are very good. We like to think of PNH as a little different. We encourage you to do your research, ask the right questions and are confident that once you do you will end up at the right place for you. We can assure you that if you get the weather window on your trip no matter where you go, it will be the best trip of your life! That's Alaska!

What's is the weather like?
Weather in Alaska can make or break a trip. We are 30 miles from Valdez and we have the very same weather. All of us here in Alaska fly the Chugach Mountains. The Gulf of Alaska is a giant weather maker. It is this that provides the Chugach with over 50 feet of snow annually and makes the runs world famous. An average week consists of 2-3 huge fly days. If you get 4 or 5 big fly days you have luck on your side. This is why we charge only 4 heli hours up front and you are not out of pocket 5 and 6 thousand counting on flying every day. In the event you do get to fly every day you simply pay as you go. It is not common to go over your 4 heli hours. This alone makes PNH affordable for you. It is important that we are very honest on this topic as we are the only operation that has you on an every day basis. You are at PNH from the time you get off the plane until the time you depart Others see you only on fly days and can sell you on a vertical package. The weather is why we choose to charge heli hours for your trip. Not to mention, vertical does not cost. The magic carpet ride to obtain the vertical is the expense. When the weather is on, you will get your vertical. It is very important to us that you understand the weather when heli skiing. This is for your safety and the safety of our operation. Remember, tree line in Alaska hovers around 1500 feet. All of the heli skiing in Alaska is in heavily glaciated terrain. We need clear skies to fly and ride safely. When you are not in the heli, you are riding the local chair lift.

Do I have to ski with my group if we are different abilities?
NO. We always have guests in house that vary in abilities, not to mention a staff that is waiting to fill a seat. All of them are world class riders and will be more than happy to ride with you where ever you so choose to ride. It is very easy to accommodate you into the group that is ideal for you and your goals for the experience. Group dynamics are very important for your heli experience. All of the operations in Alaska take pride in making certain that your group is comparable in abilities.
