GENERAL CONDITIONS COSTA RICA

In the ‘70’s, Central America began to attract U.S surfers, looking for exotic waves close to home. Costa Rica was a major draw, where it was possible to be surfing an endless, peeling pointbreak, within an hour’s drive of the airport and a choice of two very different coastlines. Political stability, high degree of education and an absence of civil war, so popular in neighbouring countries, has earned it the reputation of being a ‘Latin Switzerland’. Compared to its population, Costa Rica has an incredible number of surfing expats and travellers, representing 10% of all tourists, which translates to 100,000 surfers. Areas such as Guanacaste, became a victim of its own success, so new waves were sought around the Nicoya Gulf, opening up places like Mal Pais. Despite the shocking access roads requiring 4WD in the wet season, this wild area became a surf-school heaven, trading on idyllic tropical scenery, incredible national park wildlife and mellow beachbreaks.

OUR BUNGALOWS

Individual bungalows all have A/C, ceiling fan, hot water, gorgeous, breezy verandas and pillow top mattress'. In each room,we also provide, a digital lap top size room safe, rain can shower heads, beautiful furnishings, organic soap and aromatherapy candles. Kitchen.

All Bungalows can accommodate up to 4 people. An extra single bed can be ordered. Every bungalow is built bedhigh off the ground, allowing for amazing sea breezes and the sounds of the ocean to lull you to sleep at night. Bungalows come equipped with A/C, ceiling fan, hot water, pillow top mattress' and a digital room safe. We provide daily house keeping and organic soap. In keeping with the calming blue theme, mosaic showers have room for two and the rain can shower head will soothe your muscles with hot water after a day of surf, yoga or hiking! Large comfortable chairs on the balcony will provide you with tree top views to see the monkeys, butterflies , fireflys and birds. Each Bungalow features gorgeous, thoughtfully chosen decor, lovely balconies that offer tree top views, ocean breezes and the exotic sounds of the jungle. To make hanging out on the veranda an ultra relaxing experience, We chose stylishand comfortable furnishings. All bungalows feature lush pillow top mattress' that will have you resting deeply. Ourmasasage private bathrooms feature hand carved stone sinks, organic soaps, gorgeous all tile & spacious hot water showers with rain can shower heads and windows that invite in the stars andmoonlight. Bungalow Armonia

Bungalow Armonia's decor provides a chic ethnic flair with an eclectic mix of hard carved Indonesian hand woods and a cozy tropical seagrass sofa.This bungalow has all the wonderful amenities of all the other rooms and is stylish in sophisticated bohemian kind of way. A king size bed with pillow top mattress and a single bed provide ample sleeping arrangements. A/C, ceiling fan, room safe, over sized hot water shower with rain can shower head and cozy bedding complete this bungalow. Very stylish and comfortable chairs adorn the balcony that overlooks the lush gardens of Villas las Allemendras and the pool.

Bungalow Pacifico

Bungalow Pacifico's cool relaxing design is in keeping with the tropics. Two queen beds with gorgeous seagrass headboards sleep four and an additional single bed can be placed in the room by request. This room has a Balinese vibe and will feel very peaceful as the name suggest. Comfortable and well designed chairs are featured on the balcony for relaxation.

Bungalow Sereno

Bungalow Tranquilo

Bungalow Tranquilo is a delightful blend of dark woods and colorful accessories. This room has a smooth tribal feel with a queen platform bed and a bunkbed that has a single top and full bottom, rendering it ideal for families with kids. You will feel calm and relaxed as you sink into the pillow top mattress' and light the Moroccan lantern while taking in some interesting tribal art. SANTA THERESA SURROUNDINGS

Santa Teresa is a Robinson Crusoe's dream tucked away on the edge of the rainforest in the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula on the west coast of Costa Rica. Mal Pais areaThere are long sweeping beaches with consistent surf and lush tropical rainforests that line the shoreline for miles. Mal Pais is situated on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica on the southern tip of the Nicoya peninsula. This magical province extends for approximately 6 km. Not too long ago, Santa Teresa was a small fishing village but has seen quite a bit of growth in the last few years and is quickly becoming the new trendy hot spot with the occasional celebrity, rock star or super model being spotted chillin' like everyone else. Small beach bars and restaurants dot the coastline and trickle into the rainforest offering excellent local hospitality. Mal Pais is by all accounts one of the hidden jewels of the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica... Mal Pais area and Santa Teresa has an international "flavor". Surfers and non-surfers venturing to this area who were just passing through, have fallen in love with Santa Teresa Mal Pais areaand never left. In the last few years there has been an insurgence of yoga and wellness minded people and businesses that have built their presence in the area. All of these cosmopolitan newcomers add their spices and styles to the local flavor, so that now there is an amazing choice of international restaurants and the mixture of international and local vibe is one of a kind. With gorgeous white sand beaches, warm water and waves suited for all levels from the novice to pro , it's no wonder that the word has finally gotten out about this magical place! This town caters to campers as well as elite travelers. Of course the waves and gorgeous beaches are a huge attraction here, but the area also offers so much more. From renting quads and exploring the jungle, fishing, hiking, snorkeling, zip line canopy tours, Mal Pais area have amazing waterfalls, yoga, massage, or visiting the beautiful reserve, Cabo Blanco. The cool bars and variety of delicious cuisine augment an already truly special destination.

Our packages can be customized to suit your needs, desires and level, but most include two surf lessons daily with surf campexperienced and CPR certified instructors. When we have guests that are advanced, we arrange your transportation to secret spots! Our student ratio is never more than 3 to 1, and often times less as your skills progress during the week, you may be instructed privately as we base your program solely on your individual needs. With several gorgeous beaches in the area each offering different breaks, we always have suitable fun waves and safe place to teach you. We know one of your main reasons for visiting us is to learn how to surf, or improve your skills. Not only do we teach you all the skills to surf, we also teach you ocean awareness, environmental surf schoolawareness, basic pre-surf stretching exercises and, most importantly, safety. All of your equipment will be supplied unless you prefer to bring your own. There are two sessions each day, one at approximately 7:30 -8:00 am and the afternoon lesson will be at approximately 3:30 - 4:00 pm. Please note that lesson times may vary depending on wind and tide conditions.

HOW TO GET THERE

Flying to Malpais

After arriving to San Jose you can take a 30 minute flight to Tambor - We will arrange a taxi to pick you up in Tambor. The drive to Santa Teresa from Tambor is approximately 35-40 minutes and the cab fare approximately $55.00.

Tambor is 55 minutes to Malpais. Try to arrive in Costa Rica on an early flight to make your connection to Tambor, otherwise it may be necessary to stay in San Jose for the night.

Driving to Malpais by Car

Drive to Puntarenas ( 1 1/2 hours) and take the "Tambor" car ferry to Paquera.You will be on the ferry for approximately an hour and a half or so. Drive through Tambor to Cóbano. In Cóbano drive straight through town and turn left after 1 kilometer to Malpaís. After 8 km, a total of approximately an hour from getting off the ferry, you will arrive at a crossroads just before the beach, turn right and the Blue Surf Sanctuary hotel is approx 3kms on your left. 4x4 is not necessary, but is recommended in the rainy season. Total journey time from San José is 5 ½ hours, as we recommend that you arrive at Puntarenas at least one hour before the ferry departs.

Take the bus to Malpais

One can also take a bus from San Jose. The bus is very inexpensive and takes about 6 hours. It is a relatively comfortable air conditioned bus. A private shuttle van can also be hired as another means to get to Santa Teresa. We will be happy to help arrange this for you!
